OCTOBER IN PARADISE
A GREAT PARTY
By Gale Brownell
October in Paradise is the Task Force’s annual dinner, dance and auction party, and raises the majority of funds for our work. The 13th annual October in Paradise will be held on Thursday, October 4th, from 5:30 to 10pm at Paradise Ridge Winery.
You can enjoy complimentary wine, appetizers, a lasagna dinner, and wonderful desserts contributed by many local restaurants and caterers. ”Colonel” Ernie Carpenter will conduct a live auction of vacation getaways, golfing packages, wine, and more. The silent auction has more than 100 exciting items. Some people attend the event particularly for the great wine bargains.
Blue Moon Rhythm and Blues Band will play their renowned dance music while weboogie on the new floor recently installed at Paradise Ridge Winery.
The program includes the Spirit of Service Award for exemplary service to homeless people, and the Marijke Byck-Hoenselaars Spirit of Community award for a person ororganization that makes a difference on homeless and affordable housing issues. The Community Award was renamed to honor Marijke, who passed away in an accident last year after a lifelong dedication to ending homelessness and helping people withouthomes.
By sharing the fun, you’ll support the Task Force’s collaborative program development, fund development and distribution, community education, and advocacy. We also work closely with homeless service providers; funding the Voicemail Project so people without phones can have a private voicemail box, and distribute furniture, household supplies, and warm jackets and blankets.
You can reserve tickets for October in Paradise by calling or e-mailing our office. 575-4494 or sctfhmls@pacbell.net. They are $70 in advance or $75 at the door.
